Dear Father
I received your esteemed
letter of Dec 18/61 a few days ago and I
was glad to hear from you.
Up to last Sunday the weather
could not be better for camping
than it had been for two weeks past
and we have improved it in drilling.
we are drilled twice a day and put
through part of the time as fast as the
horses could trott [sic] & run. we have got
So we can make a charge as fast as
the horses can run and keep them in
straight line & column. Gen. Buell
was here a few days ago and reviewed
our regiment. Our major tells us
he was pleased with our battalion
maneuverings. He condemned the revolvers
that was given to us at Camp Chase
and Said Cavalry had no business
